Reutergeld

Some collectors will have notes that have the word Reutergeld printed on them. These are a very colourful subset of the serienscheine category. The following 70 towns produced Reutergeld, to honour the poet Fritz Reuter, who died in 1874. As Reuter had been born in the state (Stavenhagen, 1810) his fame in the area would presumably make the set of notgeld quite popular. All these towns and villages are located in and around the state of Mecklenburg. Each set consists of 3 notes of values 10pf, 25pf & 50pf. Thus a complete 'Reutergeld set' consists of 210 different notes - 70 sets of 3 pieces. Please refer to the table below for the different place names that issued Reutergeld.

However, there are slight colour variations in printing and paper for each set, so you could double the number of pieces with those variants. All are fairly readily available.(Sometimes the difference between the similar pieces are best seen under a light - one set appears 'matt' and you might also see a slight difference in colour between reds and browns for example.

This is a scarcer variant set I came across where the usual set of orange has become a definate yellow. A highly collectable variant set!!

For added info about the subject, the note below issued in Stavenhagen, depicts Fritz Reuter, but is not part of the 'Reutergeld' set:

A nice album produced for all the Reutergeld notgeld pieces now follows - I have only ever seen this once! I am not sure how scarce it is. With the full set of notgeld contained within, it is a great addition for a notgeld collection.
