I hope everyone had a wonderful New Year and a joyous and happy Christmas. It’s one of the best things in the world to be around your family and loved ones, at these festive times. The collectors amongst us, hopefully were able to add interesting notgeld to their collections and are already looking eagerly forward to see what 2025 brings! Personally, I have made several new notgeld acquaintances in the past few months so I hope those relationships are positive for my notgeld collecting and research. It is funny what one can discover some times and amazing too, what collectors have accrued and the stories they can tell you. Notgeld collecting is such a vast arena to operate in, so most collectors will never get fed up with them. For me, it is one of the best hobbies in the world! There is always something new to learn and the hobby just keeps giving back. If you are stuck collecting notes with only differences in serial numbers, then please do think about the wonderful and highly collectable notgeld issues. You can get serial number variants here of course but the best thing about collecting notgeld is the vast amount of differences in topic or subject matter, colour, style, graphics and written verse etc. Collectors should never tire with notgeld!! I have been doing this now for over 51 years and still learn something new about them almost daily. It is absolutely wonderful.
This year I will be continuing with the website articles, so if there is a subject or topic not already covered, please do get in touch. Please also keep an eye on some of them and let me know if you find notgeld that I have not already listed, so I can add to what we have already found.
GNCC (German Notgeld Collectors’ Club) membership will go beyond 400 members this year. When I started to develop my notgeld.com website properly, my real aim was to attract fairly serious collectors and share all the knowledge amongst us. All these years on from that, the co-operation still continues and with more and more collectors, the subject of notgeld collecting flourishes.
For one of my Christmas presents of 2024, I received this great revalued / overprinted (OVP) grossgeld note from Greifswald:
The note was originally issued in 1918, as a ‘Grossgeld 1918’ notgeld issue with a face value of 20 mark. It has later been revalued / overprinted to 5 millionen mark in August 1923, with the huge hyper-inflationary face value / amounts required at those times. It will make a great addition to all my other Greifswald revalued pieces.
