Ludendorff-Spende 1/2 mark

THIS ISN’T NOTGELD but a receipt for 1/2 mark that had been donated to the Ludendorff fund, set up during WWI for Germany’s disabled soldiers. (Erich Friedrich Wilhelm Ludendorff (1865-1937) was a German general who was victorious at the Battle of Tannenberg during the Great War. In 1916, he was promoted to ‘Erster Generalquartiermeister’ (Quartermaster General) and together with Paul von Hindenburg, became the chief power behind the management of Germany’s military efforts in the First World War, until his resignation in 1918).

Donators to the Ludendorff fund were presented with this receipt:
“The owner of this certificate has donated 1/2 Mark to the Ludendorff Fund for Disabled War Veterans. I thank the donator on behalf of their war-disabled comrade. The Honorary Chairman Ludendorff“.

The note is in ‘au-unc condition and has not been folded like so many of these had. Nice stamp marks and signatures on the reverse – please see scans. (At the Imperial Parade on September 5, 1904 in Altona, the three Hanseatic Infantry Regiments Nos. 75, 76 (this note) and 162 were named “Bremen”, “Hamburg” and “Lübeck” by the Emperor. The infantry regiment ” Hamburg ” (2nd Hanseatic) No. 76 was an infantry unit of the Prussian army.)
