An interesting piece of verkehrsausgaben notgeld issued in Coburg and dating from 1919. It depicts a ‘black knight’ and has the famous notgeld artist’s name ‘Heinz Schiestl’ on it. The piece is in ‘au-unc’ condition. The black knight depicted on the note is a saint as he has the glowing halo around his head

The name Maurice is derived from Latin and means “like a Moor.” The Black Saint Maurice (the Knight of the Holy Lance) is regarded as the great patron saint of the Holy Roman Germanic Empire. He is also known, especially in Germany, as Saint Mauritius.
