Description

AUSTRIAN anti-semitic notgeld piece issued in Amstetten depicting ‘Jewish newspapers being burnt’. The reverse side is ‘upside down’ to normal and is therefore scarcer. The note was issued by the Amstetten Branch of the German-Austrian Protection Society ‘League of Antisemites’ The piece has a face value of 50 heller and there is a swaztika on the reverse side. The reverse side of this piece though is printed upside down compared to normal – please see scans. Note is in excellent condition. (More info about these types can be found in my publication ‘Tarnished Gems’).

FYI – Today, Amstetten is infamously known as the birth place of Josef Fritzl
