Description

An uncommon set of 3 overprinted and limited edition Austrian notgeld from Lausa bei Losenstein. Overprint depicts Krampus, the half demonic figure. Dating from 1920, this was a limited edition set of 1000 pieces!! These are lovely looking and very desirable and interesting pieces. A fantastic addition for anyone’s notgeld collection!!

The words ‘Brav sein, nicht einlosen!‘ translate as ‘Be good! Don’t redeem this!

(The instruction is from Krampus, St Nicholas’ companion who is in charge of punishing naughty children while the saint rewards the good ones (as played out on 6th December in Austria).  He is warning people to behave like good girls and boys and not to redeem the note……which would result in a loss of profit for the issuing municipal authority of Lausa, the whole point of collectors’nNotgeld being that the notes, once purchased, wouldn’t be redeemed).
